Heard about cryptocurrency, digital currency, or Bitcoin but don’t know where to start?
Have a friend that tells you to do “this” but not “that” and you aren’t quite sure what any of it means? Want to know deeper before you commit to anything or sign up to some website? Concepts like wallets, exchanges, and blockchains can be overwhelming.
I’ve been there. I’ve spent days watching Youtube videos, reading random tutorials, visiting blogs that have 100s of posts with overlapping but slightly different information. I have signed up to various services, trying to piece together what I can while making silly mistakes along the way. What I really wanted was someone to explain things in building blocks, one sequential step at a time. What is it, how it works, and finally, how to actually buy, keep, and trade my own digital currency.
This site aims to provide that. Here’s how each part is broken down:
Learn
- Part 1 – How cryptocurrency works: distributed vs centralized, blockchains, and mining
- Part 2 – Storing and trading: transactions, wallets, and exchanges
- Part 3 – Research your coins: Bitcoin, Ethereum, and alt coins
Practice
- Part 4 – Creating a test wallet
- Part 5 – Buy your first Bitcoin or Ethereum
- Part 6 – Trade for other cryptocurrencies on an exchange
- Part 7 – Storing your coins safely
Each step builds on the previous one. Of course, feel free to skip parts that you are already familiar with or have done yourself. Each part provides a summary of what prerequisite knowledge I assume you have, what the expected outcome to be, and how long it will take.
With that, let’s dive in with Part 1: What is cryptocurrency
